Need Water Heater Repair Near Me? What to Do Right Now
A water heater problem is frustrating, but a few quick steps keep things safe and limit damage until help arrives.
If you see water spreading from the unit, close the cold-water shutoff valve to the water heater if you can reach it safely — usually a lever or gate valve on the cold line entering the top of the tank. That stops the tank from refilling and limits how much water can escape. Mop later; valve first.
For a gas unit, if you smell gas, leave the area and contact your gas utility or emergency services first — then call a plumber once it is safe. Do not relight pilots, flip switches, or investigate a gas smell with a flame of any kind. This is the one water heater rule with no exceptions.
Leave the access panels and the internal work alone. Water heaters combine water, pressure, and serious heat — and often gas or high-voltage electricity. Describe the symptoms to us instead; a good description is genuinely half the diagnosis.
